Summer Intensive Music Production with Ableton Live 12 Course: July 8, 2024

On July 8 – 12, 2024, the Brooklyn Digital Conservatory be holding an intensive week-long workshop in music production with Ableton Live 12 in Brooklyn, NYC at ShapeShifter Lab (837 Union St, Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY).

The course will be taught by Berklee College of Music, Juilliard and NYU music technology artist/producer/professor Dan Freeman. Dan has designed the Ableton Live courses at Juilliard, NYU’s Clive Davis Institute and is the course coordinator for Ableton classes at Berklee College of Music. Additionally, he’s been and Ableton Certified Trainer since 2011 and has performed and presented globally at venues and festivals throughout Europe, Latin America and the U.S.

The course will meet daily that week from 12 – 6 PM. We will cover the following topics:

  • An Introduction To Ableton Live 12’s Interface
  • Beat Building and MIDI Sequencing In Live 12
  • Audio Warping For Remixing and Live Performance
  • Ableton’s Synths Part 1: Analog, Drift and Meld
  • Ableton’s Synths Part 2: Operator and Wavetable
  • Sampling and Ableton’s Sampler and Simpler
  • Processing Audio with Ableton’s Audio Effects including the new Roar
  • Preparing a Track To Mix
  • The Basics of Mixing

The goal for attendees of the workshop will be to finish a track to present to the class.

Students will be expected to bring their own laptops, headphones and have Ableton 12 Suite running on their laptops. Ableton Live Suite can be used for a one month free trial, so students will not have to buy it to do the course. Students should be over 15 to be eligible to take the course and there will be 14 seats in the class.
